Exceptions for employees of the legislature or a state agency in the legislative branch

A state employee employed by the legislature or a state agency in the legislative branch may be reimbursed for travel expenses as determined by the employing house of the legislature or the employing state agency. Texas Government Code Section 660.204 If the house or agency determines that the expenses will be reimbursed on an “actual expenses” basis, then the maximum amount of that reimbursement is equal to twice the amount that could be reimbursed to a regular state employee. General Appropriations Act Article IX, Section 5.06

State Agency
A unit of state government that uses appropriated funds to pay or reimburse a travel expense of a state employee. This includes the Teacher Retirement System of Texas and the Employees Retirement System of Texas. Texas Government Code Section 660.002(19)
State Employee
An individual employed by a state agency, including a key official. Texas Government Code Section 660.002(20) The term includes prospective state employees and aircraft pilots.
