Specific Agencies

Texas Facilities Commission Employees

The Texas Facilities Commission (TFC) is authorized to pay an additional night shift differential to employees in the Facilities Design and Construction Division and the Planning and Real Estate Management Division. TFC determines the amount of the shift differential and the eligible employees.

Texas Juvenile Justice Department Employees

The Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) is authorized to pay an additional shift differential to:

  • Juvenile Corrections Officers I
  • Juvenile Correctional Officers II
  • Juvenile Correctional Officers III
  • Juvenile Correctional Officers IV
  • Juvenile Correctional Officers V
  • Juvenile Correctional Officers VI

TJJD may base the shift differential on facility geographic location, facility classification, and for evening, nights, and weekends. The resulting salary rate, including the shift differential, must not exceed the rate designated as the maximum rate for the applicable salary group.

Texas Workforce Commission Employees

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is authorized to pay shift differential pay to employees in the vocational rehabilitation program. TWC must develop and implement policies related to the amounts of shift differential and circumstances in which eligible employees will be paid.

Texas Department of Transportation Employees

The Texas Department of Transportation may pay an evening or night shift salary differential not to exceed 15 percent of the monthly pay rate to its employees who work the 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. shift or the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift, or their equivalents.

A weekend shift salary differential not to exceed 5 percent of the monthly pay rate may be paid to persons who work weekend shifts.

The evening or night shift salary differential may be paid in addition to the weekend shift salary differential.

Health and Human Services Agencies

Certain Health and Human Services agencies are authorized to pay an additional night shift salary differential not to exceed 15 percent of the monthly pay rate to certain eligible personnel who work the 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. shift or the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift, or their equivalents.

A weekend shift salary differential not to exceed 5 percent of the monthly pay rate may be paid to persons who work weekend shifts.

The evening or night shift salary differential may be paid in addition to the weekend shift salary differential.

Eligible personnel include:

  • Clinical, testing and support personnel at the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and the Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
  • Data processing or printing operations personnel at HHSC, DSHS, and the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS).
  • Statewide Intake Personnel at DFPS.
  • Personnel in the HHSC Regulatory Services Division.
