Agency-Specific Provisions
Hardship Station Incentives
Background
Certain agencies are authorized to designate hardship stations across the state and may provide incentives to commissioned peace officers for accepting positions at these posts.
Department of Public Safety
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) may designate 40 hardship stations across the state based on excessive vacancies and/or cost of living, and may designate specialized assignments across the state based on the type of assignments and/or skills required for the position. DPS determines the locations that qualify as hardship stations, employees eligible to receive incentives for accepting positions at these posts, and the amount of such an incentive.
Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) may designate hardship stations across the state based on excessive vacancies and/or cost of living. TABC determines the locations that qualify as hardship stations and which employees are eligible to receive incentives, and may provide an incentive of up to $5,000 per fiscal year to employees accepting positions at these posts.
