TINS Direct Deposit

Lesson 4: Notification of Change and Returned Money

BANKIN Screen

Financial Institution Information (BANKIN) screen

The TINS BANKIN screen provides bank contact information by routing number. You must have the nine-digit payee routing number to access this information. State agencies may contact financial institutions to verify account information, or confirm a payment was received. State agencies may NOT request that funds be returned. For reversal of an erroneous payment agencies should use the Direct Deposit Reversal Request form (74-191). (Lesson 8)’

To access the TINS BANKIN screen, enter the transaction code BANKIN followed by a point (.) and the nine-digit routing number on Line 1 (command line) and press Enter.

The screen that displays provides the user with the ACH contact information for that financial institution.

Contacting financial institutions

Agencies may call the financial institution to:

  • Confirm account information
  • Check if funds have been returned

Keep in mind some financial institutions may not release any information to any party other than their account holder.

Note: Agencies must not submit requests for the return of funds ― known as reversals ― directly to a financial institution. That is solely a function of the Comptroller's office (see Lesson 8, "Payments in Error " of this training).
