Lesson 3: Standardization, Validation and Security

Mail Code Security

Mail codes may have a security level assigned so an agency can protect address information from being changed or, in special cases, viewed. The security levels are 0, 1 and 2. If an agency requests a higher level of security than the assigned default, the higher level of security becomes the securing source for that mail code.

This chart describes what the security level code means to users in terms of their ability to view or change information on a mail code.

Mail Code Security Level Chart

Security Level View? Use? Change?
0 Anyone Anyone Anyone
1 Anyone Anyone Only securing agency
2 Only securing agency Only securing agency Only securing agency

Security level 2 is reserved for special circumstances. Contact Payment Services to discuss your agency’s special circumstances.

Note: Your agency does not have to be the agency that set up the mail code to request that it be secured.
