Expenditures Related to State Officers and Employees
Employee Awards
A state agency may use appropriated money to purchase service awards, safety awards or other similar awards to present to its employees for professional achievement or outstanding service. The agency must adopt policies governing the awards and the awards may be given only to current employees. The awards may not cost more than $100 for an individual employee.
Note: Appropriated money may not be used to purchase an award for a member of an advisory board or other advisory or consultative body.

- Appropriated money
- Money appropriated by the Legislature through the General Appropriations Act (GAA) or other law. (Texas Government Code Section 2113.001(1))
- State agency

- A department, commission, board, office or other entity in the executive branch of state government.
- The Supreme Court, the Court of Criminal Appeals, another entity in the judicial branch of state government with statewide authority or a court of appeals.
- A university system or institution of higher education as defined by Texas Education Code Section 61.003, except a public junior college, which is excluded from the meaning of the term. (Texas Government Code Section 2113.001(2))

Documentation Requirements [+]
- A state agency must retain documentation in its files that shows if the award was provided to a state employee who was employed by the agency at the time the employee received the award.
- Comptroller object 7211 must be used.
