Defaults and Edits
The Comptroller’s office established defaults and edits in USAS about the types of payments that are subject to the prompt payment law. The default and edits are designed to cover most circumstances. The system default and edits include:
- Profile indicators on USAS transaction codes (T-codes),
- Document types, and
- Comptroller object codes.
If USAS determines that a payment will be distributed after the payment's due date AND the payment is subject to the prompt payment law, then USAS:
- Computes the interest due,
- Generates a transaction, and
- Includes the interest with the principal payment to the vendor.
The USAS generated interest payment posts as a separate transaction from the principal payment. It will have a unique document number and not affect the principal payment transaction amount or the principal payment document total amount.
Note: Interest begins to accrue the day after the payment due date, and interest stops accruing on the distribution date.
