Step Action
1 Access HIDU3 using only the individual’s SSN. You may also access HIDU3 from HNHLS (Employee Assignment Service History) by entering VT in the SUBCOMMAND field.
2 Enter R in the SUBCOMMAND field.
3 Enter the following fields as required:
INDIVIDUAL SSN (Key)
VET NAME (Optional)
VETERAN STATUS (Required)
Indicates the individual veteran’s status. This code used for statewide veteran’s reporting.

VETERAN PREFERENCE (Optional)
The category in which the veteran qualifies for preference status.
V Veteran
W Surviving spouse (not remarried)
O Orphan of veteran who was killed while on active duty

The date the individual was discharged from the military.
NET SERVICE THIS PERIOD (Display)
The system calculates military service time for the period entered above.
TOTAL PRIOR ACTIVE SERVICE (Optional)
The total amount of the veteran’s prior military service.
TOTAL ACTIVE DUTY DAYS (Display)
Total military service (net service plus prior service).
SEPARATION CODE (Optional)
Four-digit code which reflects the reason for separation (from the DD214 military form).
