Meal and Lodging Exceptions
Exceptions for Designees of Legislators or Certain Officials

A legislator, a judicial officer, a chief administrator of a state agency, the executive director of the Texas Legislative Council, the secretary of the Senate or a board member may designate one or more state employees to represent the designating party at a particular meeting or conference. A designated employee is not required to work for the same state agency as the designating party. A designated employee is entitled to receive reimbursement of actual expenses for meals and lodging while attending the meeting or conference. If the expenses are incurred within the contiguous United States, the reimbursement is limited to twice the amount that could be reimbursed for regular state employee travel. The designations must occur on a trip-by-trip basis.
