Hardship Station Incentives

Background

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is authorized to designate 40 hardship stations across the state, based on excessive vacancies in the Texas Highway Patrol Division. Commissioned peace officers may receive incentives for accepting positions at these posts.

DPS is responsible for determining the criteria for hardship stations, including:

  • Locations that qualify as hardship stations
  • Employees who are eligible for the incentive
  • The incentive amount
