Payee Inquiry Screens
Payee Name Search (PAYNAM)

The PAYNAM screen can help verify if a payee or debtor is established in TINS when the user has only the name. The inquiry results, which are displayed in numerical order by PAYEE NUMBER (also referred to as the TIN), also help the user to determine if multiple mail codes exist for the TIN.

Access

PAYNAM is one of three TINS screens not listed on the TINS Inquiry Menu (INQMEN) screen and can only be accessed using Line 1 Entry.

Screen Example

PAYNAM ORGANIZATION TYPE: EXACTNESS CODE: ZIP CODE:
               NAME:
               ADDRESS CODE:

Steps:

  1. Choose one of the two methods for a PAYNAM search:
    • Enter only the T-code PAYNAM on Line 1 and press Enter or
    • Enter all the required field values on Line 1 after PAYNAM and press Enter.
    Method Description
PAYNAM Follow the screen prompts to enter field values as described in steps 2–7
PAYNAM.2.1.ZIP00.NAME BEING SEARCHED.(A or blank space).

    • Screen T-code (PAYNAM)
    • Organization Type of 1 or 2
    • Exactness Code 1, 2, 3 or 4
    • ZIP Code (five zeros if unknown)
    • Name
    • Address Code:
      • Enter A if the address is requested
      • Leave a blank space if the address is not needed.

A period separates each field, ending with a period.

    Press Enter.

  2. ORGANIZATION TYPE: After PAYNAM is entered on Line 1, enter the appropriate value when prompted.
If the name search is for… Then enter…
An individual or a sole owner, 1
A business, a partner or other entity, 2
  3. EXACTNESS CODE: Enter the appropriate value.
If the name search is for… Then enter…
The most exact name match, 1
    A near name match, 2
A less exact name match, 3
    A sounds-like name match, 4
  4. ZIP CODE: Enter the payee’s five-digit ZIP code. If unknown, enter five zeros.
  5. NAME: Enter up to 50 characters.
  6. ADDRESS CODE: Enter A if the address is requested, or leave blank if the address is not needed.

Cross Reference Inquiry

When viewing results on PAYNAM, a user may link to a different inquiry screen to view information for a displayed TIN and then return to the original PAYNAM results screen without losing those results.

Steps:

  1. Overtype the information on Line 1 by entering X/(Six-letter inquiry T-code).(11-digit TIN) Example: X/PYADDR.7XXXXXXXXX3.
